David Smith
Managing Director and Senior Consultant
 Dr. David Smith is Managing Director and brings over two decades of leadership experience to Teleos Leadership Institute, primarily in the area of human resources management. His expertise spans various disciplines, including leadership development, organizational change, training and development, teambuilding, executive coaching and the searching, hiring and development of high-quality staff. David has extensive experience as an executive coach and as a designer and facilitator of leadership development programs.
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
Prior to establishing David Smith Associates, David was the Director of Organization and Staff Development for the Albert Einstein Healthcare Network in Philadelphia, directing a team of consultant/trainers on a variety of learning and change-related initiatives. Before working in healthcare, he was the Co-director of the Center for Professional Development at the University of Pennsylvania. In this position, he directed leadership and professional development programs at the University and conducted organizational development interventions throughout campus.
Additionally, David has had a long career in directing human resources departments both at the University of Pennsylvania and the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. He directed the largest employment operation in the Delaware Valley and two major compensation redesign efforts while serving as Director of Human Resources at Penn.
EDUCATION
David has a Doctorate in Education from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master's Degree in Educational Media from Temple University and a Bachelor's in Psychology from Harvard University. His doctoral research focused on the identification of competencies needed by higher education leaders and professional staff during times of change. He is certified as an Adaptiv trainer (based on Dr. Martin Seligman's work on Learned Optimism), the Myers Briggs Type Indicator profile and the Appreciative Inquiry group consulting methodology. He is currently participating in the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland's International Organizational Systems Development program.
