Kristin Von Donop and Chris Allen Thomas, from Teleos, were among the honored guests for the event on April 28, 2011, where West Point honored Frances Hesselbein with a farewell reception to recognize her mentorship of military cadets. She served in her mentoring role as the Class of 1951 Chair for the Study of Leadership in the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Leadership, which was made possible through a generous gift by the graduating class of 1951.
Frances became a “rock star” on the West Point campus, engaging cadets through a series of leadership dialogues between herself and another thought leader every two months during her tenure at West Point. At the farewell reception, she was honored by a roomful of cadets and high ranking officers, including several active and retired generals, and presented with a West Point saber to commemorate her mentorship. After a short speech, Frances was honored again by a standing ovation. On the balcony after the reception, a dear friend of Frances serenaded her with America the Beautiful in a rich Irish tenor, standing in front of a sunset on the Hudson River.
